Foursquare appears to have moved the goalposts again. First the transition from a location based social network, to a social recommendations app, and now the next step, becoming a location based search engine.
Checking it out myself, this actually addresses a real need that most desktop solutions I’m familiar with don’t - useful filters on finding places to go, based on category. If I search brunch, or even brunch city intersection via google, the results are useless.
By taking foursquare out of the app context, I’m seeing value I didn’t see before.
